Are you looking for an interesting and challenging role in conservation? Are you interested in a role with exposure to of some of the most complex, exciting issues at the nexus of New Zealand tourism, industry, and its natural and historic heritage today?


A wide variety of activities on public conservation land, or in relation to protected wildlife, marine mammals or marine reserves, require approval from DOC. Our Permissions team, located throughout the country, deals with these applications. The permissions process we use allows DOC to monitor and control the environmental effects of these activities.


In 2017, DOC implemented substantial changes to the permissions system to enhance our potential to provide robust, legal and sustainable assessments of applications while improving the overall customer experience.


We are seeking a savvy, experienced person to join our team who will help deliver and support high-quality work on fascinating and complex permissions processes, supporting the nationally consistent application of our Permissions systems. As a National Advisor, you will work alongside management to provide leadership and guidance to the wider network of Permissions Advisors as a respected peer leader, helping to reinforce this strong nationwide network.


Your ability to plan and manage complex work programmes in a busy environment will be critical as you successfully scope problems and advise on fit-for-purpose solutions that have a customer-focused approach. Using your exceptional written and oral communication skills, you will be drawn upon to provide expert advice on what can and can't happen on public conservation lands and waters. You will work with a wide range of people including the public, DOC staff and the Minister of Conservation.



Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
