Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage transmission grid (380 kV to 30 kV) and is responsible for developing and maintaining the grid, providing users with access to it and controlling energy flows. The Elia group is a team of 2,000 professionals who have the task of ensuring the continuity of electricity supplies in Belgium. As owner and operator of electricity transmission networks in Belgium and Germany Elia has an important role and mission in supporting and implementing Europe's energy and climate policy.
Function
As head of the Business development (BD) team, you will be responsible for creating long term value through identifying and attracting new business opportunities in the field of electricity transmission infrastructure in Europe. The BD team is a newly created function within Elia and is responsible for all Business development/M&A activities across the Elia Group from identifying new business opportunities, shaping and landscaping the environment, identifying concrete opportunities, to deal execution including conduct negotiations, due diligence process, and ultimately negotiation of definitive transaction agreements. Based at the corporate headquarters in Brussels, the BD team consists of a small and agile cell fully supporting the Elia strategic agenda by identifying and delivering on the prioritized strategic external growth opportunities. The head of business development reports to the CFO and work in close cooperation with the CEO, the head of strategy, legal and finance. Key responsibilities will include: * provides leadership and management of the business development team * elaborate on the business development/M&A strategy, together with the strategy department and the CFO *create opportunities for the company through long term partnerships or deals that leverage the value of the company’s skills and knowledge * Get the right info you need to figure out how those new opportunities can become real and find a way to reach and shape them (in terms of landscaping the environment). * Managing and retaining relationship with key business players. Building and leveraging relationships founded on trust and integrity to facilitate opportunities * Actively lead the team contribution to dedicated parts of the execution phase of delivering a partnership/ doing a M&A transactions * Interfacing with strategy, finance, legal and other functional departments to ensure seamless deal execution * Develop and update profiles of potential targets on our internal deal database
Your profile
* University degree in management, finance or economy or engineering. * 10 years of business development or M&A experience in an utility, prominent investment bank, consulting firm and/or in a corporate BD/M&A function of a multinational corporation * Exposure to BD/M&A transactions with good understanding of negotiations techniques, due diligence and key disciplines affecting M&A transactions (finance, accounting, tax, legal, etc.). The candidate will demonstrate an ability to generate new business through the exploitation of existent relationships as well as the development of new relationships in a business’s industry and an in-depth operational and valuation financial modeling experience * Self-starter personality and initiative taker with strong personal motivation and drive. Executive presence. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. * Excellent communication skills in English (oral & written) * High interest in energy transition
